On November 18th, VOE was fortunate to visit Gretchko Elementary for the fourth time and conduct assemblies for their 2nd graders. VOE volunteers were so excited to be back. Special shoutout and thank you to the teachers and Mrs. Teal for having us!

Stay tuned for a future visit to Gretchko next year for their 3rd-5th graders, a visit to Doherty Elementary tomorrow, December 3rd, and visits to Scotch and Sheiko in 2026!

Our "What is their story?" activity in action. In this activity, we hold up four different pictures of four men from various racial backgrounds. We ask students to write down what they think each man's life is like: where they work, what they like to do, where they live, what their family is like, etc. We then tell each man's true story, and reveal students stereotypes. We then discuss why their stereotypes are harmful, and how to not approach people with preconceived bias.
